In 1941, the British 8th Army was formed from the Western Desert Force, consisting of soldiers from various parts of the British Commonwealth - Britons, New Zealanders, Australians, Indians, and South Africans. After initial successes against the Italians in North Africa, the 8th Army found itself facing a new, formidable enemy - the Deutsches Afrika Korps led by the dynamic commander Erwin Rommel. This marked the beginning of a series of operations where Allied and Axis forces fought fiercely, gaining and losing territory in battles at El Alamein, Tobruk, and Beda Fomm, which would become legendary.
With the Allies emerging victorious in North Africa, the conflict extended into Tunisia and eventually reached the heart of Italy. Enduring extreme conditions of scorching heat during the day, choking dust, and freezing cold nights, the 8th Army earned the nickname "Desert Rats", inspired by the 7th Armored Division of the Western Desert force. This collection features a wide variety of parts and options, allowing players to field soldiers from different backgrounds such as British, Sikh, Punjabi, Mosselman, or Scottish. Perfect for taking on Rommel's Afrika Korps or Mussolini's Italians!
The British 8th Army set includes plastic components to assemble 30 miniatures from the British Commonwealth, with options for diverse weapon configurations and command models. Equipment provided includes Lee Enfield rifles, Thompson submachine guns, Bren gun LMGs, Boys anti-tank rifles, Webley pistols, and 2-inch mortars. The set also includes plastic bases, a construction leaflet, and optional Indian (Sikh, Punjabi, and Yusufzai) and Scottish Highlander heads. Please note that this product requires assembly and painting, with glue and paints not included.
Players can recreate World War II battles on a tabletop using dice, model troops, tanks, and rules from Bolt Action, facing off against one or multiple opponents. Both sides will need painted model troops representing soldiers, weapons, and tanks of their respective armies. The tabletop encounters are governed by twelve specific battle scenarios detailing force deployment and victory conditions.
Players can engage in strategic warfare, experiencing just a fraction of the immense conflict that was World War II. Building, painting, and playing with the models adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the game itself, offering a comprehensive experience for history and war enthusiasts alike.
